Universe: A Dark Crystal Odyssey

Wayne McGregor 's latest play is a self-conscious meditation on the climate crisis, addressing themes of exploitation, destruction, apathy and finally hope. Inspired by "The Dark Crystal," Jim Henson 's cult fantasy film about a suffering planet, "UniVerse: A Dark Crystal Odyssey" describes an earth threatened by events and in urgent need of rescue. The nine virtuosic performers of the Company Wayne McGregor dress in brightly patterned costumes and are cast in immersive digital environments that evoke humanity's inseparable dependence on nature: in the performance by the biting and acclaimed British choreographer, dance becomes a tale of a "crystalline, dark odyssey" that leads the audience to question themselves through the voice of the writer Isaiah Hull: How can we find renewed harmony with the universe that hosts us?
