Dimitris Papaioannou “Ink”

Dimitris Papaioannou returns to Teatro Argentina, after the success he received with Transverse Orientation last season, with INK (Ubu Prize 2020-2021 as best foreign play presented in Italy).
Dimitris Papaioannou, who is one of the major players on the international stage thanks to his visionary talent and evocative ability, creates in this performance a unique, entirely original world in which ancient myths are evoked and seen through a contemporary lens. Even in Ink, in fact, he transports us to a world where water, the primary material, gives us magical images and sounds, serving as the backdrop for an encounter/clash between two very different personalities in terms of age, color, and personal histories. Both present onstage creating a struggle between father and son, an esoteric relationship between old and new, fatherhood and legacy. An almost cannibalistic interdependence between two characters who, thanks to the presence of water, find themselves acting in a fantasy world. In INK we will recognize a passion for horror cinema, the poetry of Andrei Tarkovsky, and many other pictorial quotations, right down to the use of music by Antonio Vivaldi. "I had planned to create an installation with some performative interventions, and in the end I made a performance, which came out of a deep and personal emotional flow, creating an emotional state very different from my previous works," Papaioannou says, "I try to understand life and materialize on the stage my feeling and my questions about life, and then I encounter archetypes. And when you stumble on the archetypes, you encounter the Myth. Because that's what Myths do, they visualize and tell universal themes."
