Conceived and directed by Cristiano Leone and supported by the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Rome with the collaboration of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome and the Cervantes Institute, "RADIX" is an audiovisual project that promotes the confrontation between contemporary creation, historical heritage and language as a tool of cultural diplomacy. Three different short films make up this trilogy, which was created with the intention of involving contemporary artists, dancers, musicians and poets to explore common roots, draw inspiration from Roman artistic heritage, enhance it, and place the common cultural genealogy at the center of the debate on European identity. RADIX I is dedicated to the relationship between Spanish choreographer Iván Pérez's dance, the Latin language of Seneca and an emblematic monument of Roman and Spanish history, the Tempietto del Bramante. "RADIX II" sees Spanish dancer Iratxe Ansa, in a duo with Italian dancer Igor Bacovich, weaving a dialogue between Rome's Caracalla Baths and the anti-fascist verses of Spanish poet couple Rafael Alberti and Maria Teresa León. In "RADIX III," featuring the Ballet of Rome, award-winning choreographers and dancers Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich access the Galleria Borghese Museum by confronting two masterpieces by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the greatest sculptor of the Italian Baroque: the Rape of Proserpine and Apollo and Daphne.
