Roma, 19 novembre 1987, Hotel Sheraton

Notte fonda. Tutto è pronto in uno studio fotografico, si fa per dire, ricavato nel salottino della sua stanza d'albergo.

Arriva... e... succede di tutto. Crolla il fondale, si brucia un flash, si inceppa una macchina fotografica. Sono in un bagno di sudore.

Lui attende con calma i miei cambi di attrezzatura. Riparto, mi asseconda. Scatto tre rulli di pellicola formato 120. So che il tempo a disposizione sta per finire. Oso il tutto per tutto.

"Could you put the tongue on the finger?" chiedo con sicurezza.

Mi guarda un attimo interdetto, chissà cosa pensa? Dopo qualche secondo che sembra un'eternità... lo fa!

Tira fuori la lingua e la tocca con la punta dell'indice... Scatto.

...E con l'ultimo fotogramma a disposizione gli dico: "ONE MORE!!!"

Everything is ready in the makeshift photography studio, all set up in the lounge of his hotel room.
He arrives and everything starts to go wrong. The backdrop collapses. A flash bulb burns out. A camera jams. I am dripping with sweat. He waits patiently while I replace the equipment.
I start again and he stays with me. I take three rolls of 120 film. I know that our time is running out and I find the courage to ask, ”Could please touch your tongue to your finger?”
He looks at me rather taken aback.
I wonder what he is thinking. After a few seconds that feels like an eternity, he does it. He sticks out his tongue and touches it to the tip of his index finger, and I take the shot. With only one more frame of film left, I say, “One more!!!”

King, Ennio Morricone, Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Jim Hall, the Bee Gees, George Benson, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Jeff Beck, and many others. From 1980, he constantly followed the work of musician Pino Daniele, until his final days. His photos are distributed internationally by Getty Images. His fine art prints are prized by collectors worldwide.
