In a famous passage from the <\/span>
\n Lectures on the Philosophy of History<\/span>
\n<\/i> Hegel refers to what he calls the “cosmic-historical individuals.” That is, the protagonists whose actions mark the spirit of their times. The German philosopher cites Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon as examples. But are we sure that it was only great leaders, or kings and queens, emperors and popes who “made history”? Of course, we owe radical changes in peoples’ destinies to them, but there were men and women who interpreted reality in new ways, and through the power of their ideas were able to generate a new worldview. <\/span><\/p>\n

The series of Lessons in History is designed by the <\/span>Laterza Publishers <\/b>and realized in co-production with the <\/span>Music for Rome Foundation. <\/b> <\/p>\n

Laura Pepe<\/b> will address the issue of <\/span>justice<\/b> through the figure of Antigone whose tragic parable still prompts reflection on the real meaning of this word. <\/span>Corrado Augias<\/b> will talk about <\/span>brotherhood<\/b>, causing us to discover a Jesus stripped of all theological references. <\/span>Stefano Mancuso<\/b> will offer a journey into the fascinating world of the<\/span>evolution<\/b>, starting with the eight books dedicated by Darwin to plants. <\/span>Alexander Vanoli<\/b> will question the idea of <\/span>West<\/b> And on the figure of Christopher Columbus. <\/span>Guido Barbujani<\/b>, the geneticist will lead the audience to discover Cesare Lombroso and the concept of ‘<\/span>human race<\/b>‘. Emma Goldman – philosopher, anarchist and champion of women – will be the focus of the lecture by <\/span>Valeria Palumbo<\/b>, to reflect on the concept of <\/span>love<\/b>. <\/span>Chiara Colombini<\/b> will tell the story of Ferruccio Parri and his idea of<\/span> freedom<\/b>. It will then be <\/span>Alessandro Barbero<\/b> to explain how <\/span>poverty<\/b>, according to Mother Teresa of Calcutta, should not be fought but loved. <\/span>Alessandro Portelli<\/b> will reconstruct the idea of <\/span>hope<\/b> according to Bruce Springsteen, from the failure of the s<\/span>American convention to the optimism of <\/span>
\n rock and roll<\/span>
\n<\/i>. The lectures are introduced by <\/span>Paolo Di Paolo<\/b>.<\/span> <\/p>\n
