FOLK-S is a sound excerpt from Alessandro Sciarroni’s performance of the same name – FOLK-S will you still love me tomorrow? – a choreography about time, a performance that stems from a reflection on the popular phenomena of ancient dances.<\/p>\n

The Schuhplattler is a typical Bavarian and Tyrolean dance; it means “shoe clapper” and literally consists of clapping one’s legs and footwear. In this audio document of FOLK-S, the repetitive, percussive sound of hands and feet refers to a complex system of repetition codes by which Sciarroni represents folklore and the human condition, characterized by the slow exhale and inhale of a bellows accordion.<\/p>\n

Alessandro Sciarroni<\/strong> is an Italian artist active in the Performing Arts with several years of training in the field of visual arts and theatrical research behind him. His works are presented in contemporary dance and theater festivals, museums and art galleries, as well as in unconventional spaces compared to traditional venues and involve professionals from different disciplines. Among other awards, he is awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance in 2019. His creations have been presented throughout Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia. Among major events he has taken part in the Biennale de la Danse in Lyon, Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Impulstanz Festival in Vienna, Festival d’Automne and Festival S\u00e9quence Danse del 104 in Paris, Centrale Fies, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Juli Dans Festival in Amsterdam, Crossing the Line in New York, Hong Kong Art Festival, the TBA Festival in Portland, Festival Panorama Rio de Janeiro, the Venice Biennale (which dedicated a monograph to him in 2017) and presented his work at Centre Pompidou in Paris, The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Punta della Dogana-Palazzo Grassi in Venice, and the MAXXI Museum in Rome.<\/p>\n
