The Long, Hot Summer is the title of aa sound exhibition hosted, in 2023, at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. Sound Corner is reissuing three tracks of the original twenty-four: the summer told by a text read by Artificial Intelligence, a musical composition, and an assemblage of sounds and noises.
It was the summer of 1958 and Orson Welles, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were traversing the glowing earth of their feelings in the dense heat of the days and nights of the American Deep South. Their senses amplified and alerted. Life slid on a surreal plane where anything could happen, as it always does in summer. The film directed by Martin Ritt is where the show originated: a voice, music, song, speech, noise, everything here tells of summer. A few minutes to alert the senses and restore, beyond the gaze and the habit of watching and reading, a season that inspired art, literature, film and music.
