GIANNI SAVELLI


Saxophonist, he also plays the flute and clarinet, and he is active as a teacher and composer. The great variety of his interests, perhaps his distinguishing characteristic, has led him to work in an extraordinary range of musical fields. Since 2001 he has devoted himself to an original musical project of his own called “Media Res.” In the music written for his own band, he tries to bring his own fundamentally jazz-based music culture closer to the fascinating music from countries beyond Europe, in particular that from Africa and the Indo-Pakistan region, which he has familiarised himself with over the past few years. Media Res collaborated on the soundtrack for the film Le fate ignoranti by Ferzan Ozpetek, and in June 2004 it released its first album.
