The site for the vast project of Rome’s Auditorium was specifically chosen to blend and complement the existing landscape. In this choice rests the specific desire to heal the unnatural fracture in the urban tissue between the lower Parioli hills and the river plain where the Villaggio Olimpico was built.

The opportunity for an urban make-over therefore could not be overlooked. The area chosen for the Auditorium complex stretches from the Parioli area in the South, to the Flaminio area in the West, the Villaggio Olimpico to the North and Villa Glori to the East. This urban up-grade should confer a metropolitan and territorial dignity to this area equal to the four districts surrounding it, each with their own specific identity and local day to day way of life.

On the one hand the Auditorium complex aims to act like a sophisticated magnet attracting a large range of diverse patrons and on the other, to cater for the different requirements of everyday city living. This is ensured by the deliberate lay-out of the varied constructions and how each activity is provided for.

The main entrances to the Auditorium park and the underground parking are accessible from Viale Maresciallo Pilsudski and Via Giulio Gaudini. This ensures that the complex can be perceived to physically merge into the adjacent areas to the south and east. The three constructions that make up the Parco della Musica complex rise from this plain on an elevation of +24.85 creating a sequence of three distinct constructions, of different sizes, yet belonging to the same architectural family. These three "resonance boxes" are set in a vast park of trees, at right angles around the large open-air theatre, the Cavea, facing the Villaggio Olimpico. From this side, along the Viale Pietro de Coubertin, a consistent daily use of the overall complex is encouraged by the way the different constructions seem to open out to invite access to activities and events usually associated with day to day city living.
